Schools for Salone is on a mission to give children in last-mile communities access to quality education. Our vision is a Sierra Leone where quality education is a part of every child’s life.
Our Impact
Working with local partners, we support schools, train teachers to be successful in the classroom, and remove barriers that keep girls out of school. Since 2005, we’ve impacted over 18,000 students, invested $2.3 million in education in Sierra Leone since 2019, built 47 schools, trained 1000 teachers, and distributed 50,000 reusable menstrual pads to help keep girls in school.
Our Girls Program
Girls must have the healthcare resources they need to stay in school. Since reproductive health education and kit distribution began, there have been zero cases of teenage pregnancy in any SfS partner schools, and the incidence of girls missing school because of their periods has dropped to near zero and remained there
Once students have a school to attend, we focus on the quality of education children receive in that school. We work with communities to develop a basic system for tracking student attendance and performance as well as teacher qualifications
